It is true that we are winos but are partners and roommate love beer. So tomorrow we are sending them to Menotomy Beer and Wine’s

This really is a no-brainer. Free beer and it benefits the Genesis Network. We will be there with MudHoney, Mouse Trap, Cellar Roomie, and a dear friend from Virginia. Please join us. Oh and yeah it might rain but if you can go to work in the rain you can go drink in the rain. Wear a jacket and a hat and have a few samples. You will feel warm on the inside.

Mudpie and I had some food at Fore St. Restaurant in Portland, Maine. We were there to see our beloved Jeff Tweedy.
We ate local Maine cheeses and drank California reds. Then we had an exotic mushroom salad with turnips. Finished with clams and a pizza with carrot puree and leeks.
I also would like to note that I had my very first oyster at J’s Oyster with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Not a bad day at all!
Thanks Portland!

It begins! Live blogging begins! It is our one year anniversary and we are celebrating with Shepherds Ridge Pinot Noir.

Mudpie just reminded us that this is the last Shepherds Ridge ever as the winery has closed. Sad day!
Taking a break from wine to help Mudslinger make her valentines for kindergarten. Homework!
7:30-kids are in bath… The Shepherds Ridge is at Drunk Mama’s house along with our Thai dinners. Need to get the kids in bed. Cellar Mouse had to break into the Cardinal Zin Zinfandel to celebrate the completion of the Valentines. It was quite the process!
Can’t wait for adult time. Looks like the Steelers are down, oh no! Mudhoney is the Steelers #1 fan. In the Mudpie house the Steelers must win!
8:10-okay so Steelers are fighting back. I (Cellar Mouse) am back at Drunk Mama’s and ready to do this wine thing. Drunk mama is savoring our very last moment with Shepherds Ridge.

Drunk Mama is sharing her engagement story and the ring. So beautiful! And Sober Dad’s note saying “yes” and his Grandmother’s pearl ring. Nice.

8:45 Halftime Show – We’re assuming its halftime, we don’t really know since we are not watching the game. Kids are asleep and we’re FINALLY getting to our Thai takeout and Emeri Sparkling Shiraz. I (Mudpie) love spicy food and have been looking for a good wine pairing for some time. Riesling is often the suggested pairing, most often I find it way too sweet for my taste. I highly recommend the Emeri if you like spicy food, you won’t be disappointed.
9:25 PM: Drunk Mama here. I’ve just been instructed to “butch up” the proceedings. Like, we’re being such girls here, talking engagements and kids and such. So, let’s talk about beer, babes and monster trucks. Yeah! Nothing more butch than monster trucks! Here’s what Sober Dad’s new ride is going to look like, when I get my way:

10:53 pm – OK, that’s it folks. The Wine Bowl has come to an end. Thanks for joining us on our first anniversary. As our evening comes to an end, we are consoling Mudhoney and trying to convince him that continuing to grow his beard until the Steelers win the Super Bowl may be detrimental to his professional future.

We are rapidly approaching our first blog birthday. Can’t believe how fast time flies. As we head into the 12 month of this blog here is what wordpress has to say about how we have done so far. I think they probably tell everyone that they are a “wow”. Stay tuned for our tune-up on the blog. Hopefully year two will be bigger and better around here. Cheers!
The stats helper monkeys at WordPress.com mulled over how this blog did in 2010, and here’s a high level summary of its overall blog health:

We are so excited to report back from our 1st ever Wine Among Friends Battle of the Bottle. There is much to discuss about this battle but you are going to have to read through to discover our declared winner. Let’s begin with the disclaimers: we are not scientists and therefore do not know how to run a proper scientific study, we are in no way expert wine tasters, and we didn’t spit out the wine after tasting as we are not those kind of tasters. This battle and those to come are just fun ways for us discover what we like and don’t like. Also, it is a way to decide which wines we would recommend to each other and to feel comfortable in a wine shop with our choices. Okay, now that is out of the way let’s get to the battle. The Friends went to a tasting on Saturday at our local wine shop and tasted the Yalumba Shiraz Viognier. This sparked Drunk Mama to recall that one of our favorite labels, Ninety Plus Cellars, had a Shiraz Viognier lot and having that label in our first battle would be appropriate. Both bottles had the price tag of approximately $13. On Sunday evening Drunk Mama and Mudpie sent the husbands out the door to a superbowl gathering, fed and put the children to bed, and Cellar Mouse joined them at Mudpie’s house to have dinner and let these bottles duke it out.

Written by a group of friends all living in the Boston area. We aren’t ladies who lunch, we’ve got jobs & kids and budgets, but we know a good wine when we taste it. We also love to cook, and occasionally even visit a fancy restaurant or two. Here, then, is a record of our favorite (and sometimes disastrous) recipes, as well as the wines that make it all better in the end. Enjoy!
