Well one of us should drink around here (poor Sober Mama), this is a wine blog after all. And guess what, I have a glass in one hand and a mic in the other. I am here to rattle off some of my wine hazed thoughts. If you know me in person you know that after the first sip of the second glass of wine I get progressively chattier, happier, and a little sappier. So welcome to it, the second glass with me! First let me say that I am drinking Lakeville Cellars of Napa County’s Cabernet Sauvignon 2005. 13.9% alcohol. This is a smooth chocolately and earthy wine. The fruits are deep and complex. Much like me.
There isn’t much going on during this hot summer. No surprise to anyone that the heat has done nothing to curb my red wine drinking habit. Besides July 4th and Stories Uncorked, July has been a slow month for me. No trips, visits, deadlines, etc… It has been a month of some changes. New office, new roommate (let’s call her CellarRoomie, fun right? she might not think so), new tomatoes
and flowers, closure on annoying issues, fresh outlooks, etc… I want this to be a jumping off point for positive thinking. The law of attraction! Growing up I didn’t have sidewalks, play grounds, or hell even neighbors. My sister and I had to fill our time by tinkering around the house and the farm imagining all sorts of magical places and scenarios. We had a lot of time to imagine and dream. I think this is one of the ways my parents really set us up for success. We were never told we were crazy for dreaming. We could do anything we set our minds to and worked towards. I think this worked because of the law of attraction. Imagining yourself doing and being what you dream of and it will happen. Now, I am not a rock star like I sometimes imagined but I do lead quite a cool life with a great family, tons of wonderful sincere friends, a cool town, easy lifestyle, and opportunities abound. The sky is the limit. This is what I always wanted for myself as a kid laying in the grass staring up to the sky and imagining far away places.
I want to take this approach with studying and sharing wine here at “Wine Among Friends” (my Mama, hi, recently referred to us as WAF and for a little bit I was like WTF but then I got it). Why can’t we become authority figures in the wine arena? A whole new approach to wine, an approachable approach. Recently I think our contingent realized how far we had come in 6 months (next week marks our anniversary). In this short amount of time we have taken classes, reviewed wine, shopped for wine, compared variatels, studied websites and books, Drunk Mama has written short stories about wine, and it turns out we are beginning to understand. We have a long way to go but my point is we believed we could do this. We are consistently sticking our nose out and believing that we can do this lo and behold we are doing this! Six months later we have a wine blog on our hands.
We (WAF) are going to Sonoma County in the middle of August and I personally can’t wait. I dreamt of doing super cool things and traveling as a kid and look here I am writing about my love of wine and traveling to wine country. Dreams do come true.
