box in its natural habitat, cheaping out, cote-du-rhone, cube of fermented goodness, les violettes, menotomy beer and wine, moillard, uncompromising standards
Box wine is finally getting its due, and Drunk Mama is finally jumping on the bandwagon! Yes, we’ve already heard from Mudpie about splurging on a box of Alandra red. And Cellar Mouse has admitted to giving in to tough economic times and following up her Maddog 20/20 experience with her own cube of fermented goodness. Lucky for me, the best has been saved for last, because last Saturday’s Menotomy tasting featured a Moillard “Les Violettes” Cote Du Rhone that Karen (of the fabulous pour) assured us would not require any sacrificing vis-à-vis quality. After many oohs and ahs around the tasting table, Cellar Mouse, Mudpie and I ALL walked out with our own boxes. Yes, we carried those babies loud and proud all the way home, just like the kids in Allston do leaving Blanchard’s, each with his own case of Bud. (As Sober Dad and I observed, with great amusement, before last month’s Bob Schneider concert at Harper’s Ferry.)
